Description

This app is a Lite version of our Ear Training app, an educational tool for musicians to improve their relative pitch.

Learn scales, intervals, and triads. Practice recognizing chords and scales by ear with notation, then test your ability to recognize chords and scales by ear alone.

Test results are broken down by category so you can focus on the categories that need improvement.

The full version contains all major scale modes, melodic and harmonic minor modes, intervals up to the Major 10th, diminished, augmented and suspended triads with first and second inversions, and seventh chords in 14 keys.

This app is designed to be used with earphones or headphones.

So limited it's comical

:
This app tests aural recognition of chords and intervals; scales are omitted. Each question is presented in multiple choice format with either two or four choices. Notation on the treble staff accompanies each question. Intervals include 10ths and smaller. Chords include the M7, m7, Mm7 (dominant), half-diminished (m7 flat 5) and a Mm7 with a suspension of the fourth.

This alone is of limited value. But where Ear Training Lite really falls flat is in the implementation of these features. Although multiple choice responses seem to suggest the app can play the range of responses listed above, in actuality it can only play eight things: the M7 chord, m7 chord, Mm7 chord, half-diminished seventh chord and harmonic intervals of a m3, M3, m7 and M7. I went through about 70 questions and didn't heard anything else. Oh, and everything it played was on D: all chords with a D root, all intervals with D on the bottom.

Maybe the full version boasts much, much more. But with a demo like this, who would bother to find out?

The write up sounded like...

:
...it would really be cool. But no. Too easy given only two choices. This lite version only has about 7 chords.
